My brother, Charles, came to Idaho to visit our mother in the nursing home. It had been almost a year since his last visit and he was devastated to find she was near death, shrunk to half her size, and didn't seem to recognize him. He spent the morning in her room, crying and cursing my name for not letting him know sooner how much she had deteriorated. Each time her eyes would flutter open, he would lean close and say "Mom, it's me, your son, Charles! Don't you know me?" After a few hours of this he took a moment to pick up the family photo album on her bedside table...You guessed it. It wasn't our family album and it wasn't our mother in that bed.
