Pressroom retiree John Spencer dies at 82

John R. Spencer, age 82, of Perry Township, passed away on December 21, 2012. John was born on January 14, 1930 in Spencer, W.Va. the son of the late Weldon and Wilma (Keen) Spencer.

He was a  United States Air Force  veteran. John worked at the Akron Beacon Journal [in the press room] for 24 ½ years before retiring in
1992. He loved spending time with his family and friends and beloved cat, Phoenix, as well as taking the occasional trip to a casino or a good buffet. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, M. Virginia Spencer. He is survived by his children, Susan D. Spencer of Minerva, Sabrina K. Spencer of Akron, and John R. II (Tammy M.) Spencer of Willoughby; and his brother, Owel (Willa) Spencer of Parkersburg, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
