Sheryl Harris named to Cuyahoga’s Consumer Affairs department

PD and former BJ consumer affairs reporter Sheryl Harris has been appointed director of Cuyahoga County's Department of Consumer Affairs for $85,000 a year. The appointment by county Executive Armond Budish must go before County Council for a confirmation hearing, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

The department was created in 2012. Sheryl will succeed the first director, Cynthia Cich.
Sheryl is married to cartoonist John Backderf.

Derf was a staff artist-cartoonist for the Plain Dealer from 1986-89 and for the Akron Beacon Journal from 1990-1999.

Sheryl also was a regular on Cleveland public radio’s WCPN on “The Sound of Ideas” discussing, naturally, consumer affairs. The Ohio State grad lives in Cleveland with Derf.
