Added Mike: "Flying back home Tuesday. Had a late breakfast this week with Rich Strauss, who's headed I think to California pretty soon, too. We might be making a yearly visit to this wonderful country."

Explains Mike:

"You may be wondering about the name Rich Strauss.. truly an example of
what a small world we live in.

"We met by chance in Cuenca with former Hudson Twp. resident Linda Craft. She's good friends with Bob Springer, Barbara Hipsman & Rich Strauss through their shared interest in Latin America. Rich decided to spend 2 months in Cuenca, Ecuador on the way home from his latest Peace Corps gig on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Spanish professor
Linda shepherds students from North Park College (near Chicago) to Latin America for their foreign studies requirement once every 2 years. Rich was profiled by the BJ's Marilyn Miller on 7-25-11 as a 3-time Peace
Corps volunteer. "

Mike and Jane, married 38 years, have two sons, independent trucker Nathan Williams (they keep track of where he is via SmartPhone’s locator) and chemical engineer Trevor Williams. Mike retired in December 2012 after 44 years.

Proof of how small this world is... Rich Strauss lived and worked in Kent for a time; was subject of a 7-25-11 BJ story on Peace Corps volunteers, is a friend of Bob Springer and Barbara Hipsman Springer. In Cuenca we by chance met Spanish prof Linda Craft, a former resident of Hudson who knows all 3 people. Linda leads students from North Park College, Chicago, to Latin America for their foreign studies credit once every 2 years. Rich was on his roundabout way home from his 18-mo. Peace Corps gig on Luzon, decided to spend a couple of months in Ecuador.--mike
