Hello, Columbus, for BJ food writer Lisa Abraham

Lisa Abraham

A reader favorite is off the menu of award-winning Beacon Journal writers.

Lisa Abraham, who has been dishing up food news for the Beacon Journal for the past seven years, is leaving the paper to become Food Editor for the Columbus Dispatch.

Abraham wrote a farewell column in the Beacon Journal on Wednesday.  She starts her new job on March 31.

Abraham continued a long tradition of excellence by Beacon Journal food writers, following luminaries Glenna Snow, Polly Paffilas, Charlene Nevada, Connie Bloom and Jane Snow.

Abraham took over the Beacon Journal food beat in late 2006 after nearly 20 years and numerous awards covering news and politics. Politicos or portobellos, she displayed the same prowess. She was named best food columnist by the Association of Food Journalists and was twice named best lifestyle columnist in the Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards.

Abraham also co-authored a book about the acclaimed Western Reserve School of Cooking in Hudson (formerly the Zona Spray School of Cooking).  The book, “Famous Chefs and Fabulous Recipes: Lessons Learned at One of the Oldest Cooking Schools in America,” was published by the University of Akron Press in 2011.

Abraham, a native of Niles, Ohio, worked for the Toledo Blade and the Warren Tribune Chronicle before joining the Beacon Journal. She is a graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.

A new Beacon Journal food writer has not been named.

Lisa, we will miss you. I'm Lebanese also; and you've become like family on Wednesdays.
