Thrity keeps on writing

You must click on the headline above to learn what former BJ reporter Thrity Umrigar has been doing. In a word it is “writing” which is what Thrity does.

We need only list two reviews of her latest story, “The Space Between Us,” to give you a glimpse.

Umrigar is a skilled storyteller, and her memorable characters will live on for a long time. ---Washington Post

Part of what makes "The Space Between Us" so engrossing is its ability to make readers feel empathy for its subjects. ---San Francisco Chronicle

But you must visit her web site. Don’t miss the great interview of her. She gives the BJ a plug as a still great newspaper. And also see the articles–especially the one titled “Good Night, Fran.:” Her book-signing dates list Thursday, Jan 26, at Borders in the Falls.

If you have never clicked on a blog headline now is the time to start.

If you loved Fran, as I did, then re-read Thrity's obituary on The Woman in the Bib Overalls. Honest to God, I laughed out loud, with no one around, and tears flowed from my eyes. God, I miss Fran. Me and a few hundred thousand BJ readers and the entire newsroom of Fran's final days.

The interview of Thrity is fascinating, too.

Click on the headline and you'll find a treasure trove of nuggets. Thrity is a pretty remarkable person, too.

Sharing an e-mail response from Thrity:

just checked out the blog site. Thank you SO VERY MUCH for doing this. i am so touched. you know, the beacon declined so badly the last few years i was there. but i feel so lucky to have been there during the time it was a real amily. so few newspapers have what we once
had...

i was in florida for something known as BookMania.it was a fantastic experience. I was on a panel with three other fiction writers and there were over a 1,000 people in attendance. I also just found out
that the book--which has been out for a bit more than a week--is on the San Francisco Chronicle's bestsellerlist.
