BJ types off to warmer climes

Beacon Journal types are off to warmer climes for the holidays.

Coleen Murphy and Bob Tigelman are off to warmer Phoenix for the holidays. Coleen writes in an e-mail: “We're off to Phoenix for a week's visit with my dad and one of my sisters. It's mid '70s and sunny there. After decades of the cold of Minn. and the gray of Ohio, I'll settle for this -- even if it's not in keeping with the season.”

And Don Bandy left this week for Florida for two months. There are no more Bandy’s in his hometown of Washington Court House but he has two brothers and a sister in Florida, so Don is exploring the possibily of getting a condo near Bradenton and selling the old homestead (with all the leaves) on Acqueduct St. “Too much snow and cold here,” Don writes. If you need to get in touch with him send e-mail to hliggett@ald.net for the phone number of his niece Ruth Burton in Sarasota.

Incidentally, if you would like to send cards to any BJ retiree, there is now a link at the left on this blog which is titled “Retirees.”

I spent Dec. 16-22 in Key West. Sunning on the beach. Visited Hemingway House and Ernest's six-toed cats. Watched sunsets at Mallory Square, although clouds intruded on the view, where I saw a guy in a straitjacket and chains and hanging upside-down get himself loose, and human statues that only moved when money went into their bucket. Also stepped into Sloppy Joe's Bar, Hemingway's friend's joint, and had dinner in Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant/night club, the inspiration for his song.

Then I came home to 13 inches of snow on my driveway which I tackled with my snowthrower!!!
