The Cleveland Plain Dealer is among the top 10 award winners in the Syracuse University / Society for News Design competition announced today The winners (12 winners named because of ties) are, in order, the Los Angeles Times; The New York Times; National Post; Zaman (Turkey); St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times; The Boston Globe; The Plain Dealer, Cleveland; Hartford Courant; Chicago Tribune; Dallas Morning News; San Jose Mercury News; San Francisco Chronicle.
The judging groups awarded eight Gold medals — details were previously listed on this blog — three to the L.A. Times, one each to The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, and The Guardian. Of those, none of them were agreed upon by the entire judging panel as the Best of Show, and since that award must be unanimous, there is no Best of Show this year.
