Dana Canedy, once at PD,

Dana Canedy, who once worked for the PD, has been named Simon & Schuster’s new publisher and senior vice president. She is the first African-American to hold that job.

She was at the New York Times for more than 20 years.

Since 2017 she has been administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes.

Her memoir, “A Journal for Jordan,” about her partner First Sgt. Charles J. King who wrote a journal for their son, Jordan, in case he did not return from the war in Iraq. Jordan was killed in combat in 2006. A movie based on the book, produced by Dana Canedy, directed by Denzel Washington and starring Michael B. Jordon, will begin production this fall.

Ms. Canedy was born in Indianapolis and grew up in Radcliff, Kentucky. The University of Kentucky graduate worked at the Palm Beach (Florida) Post and Cleveland Plain Dealer before joining the New York Times in 1996.
