Vintage photos: Lary Bloom

Please note well that this is not "the late" Lary Bloom but only an exaggeration. Read the comments below. He has been sent an email which he will hopefully answer to increase our embarassment

Sunday Beacon Magazine editor

That brings back memories and many stories. For several years Larry was the Beacon Magazine editor, Bill Bierman the writer and I was the photographer.
In those days printing color photos was a labor intensive job and I would put the finished prints on his desk. LARRY'S DESK. It was something to behold, piles high with papers and about a holf dozen partially full coffee cup cups with cigar buts in them.
Larry would remember the color or the type or something of a submitted story on his desk and he would see the corner of it sticking out from underneath a pile and instead of moving th9ose coffee cups he would try a yanking trick and invariably spill some coffee juice on my perfect prints.
He'd come to to the photo dept. holding them up by the corners and with the sheepish shit eating grin just day "Oops". He made me scream silently many times.
Eventually I would pin them up high on that cork wall beside his desk, and even so he would take them down and often ruin them. Hunter was not a happy camper when I again would have to spend a lot of time in the darkroom reprinting them.

I didn't know he died or that he was ill, and all that said he ws easy and fun to work with.

Looks like the news of his death was greatly exaggerated. Another of Lary's (with one 'r'this time) tricks was to leave his desk lamp on while he was not at his desk, or very far from his desk. Now and then he would phone and ask to turn his desk lamp off. I see you did good after leaving the Beacon Magazine, RIP. It was fun while it lasted.
