KR & Ebony executive Bryan Monroe passes away
Former Ebony and Jet magazines vice president and editorial director and
Knight-Ridder vice president Bryan Monroe passed away.
He also was CNN politics editor and on Temple University’s Klein College
of Media and Communications and Northwestern University Medilll School of
Journalism faculties and president of the National Association for Black
Journalists.
In his early years he was a photographer for the San Jose Mercury News and
became its deputy managing editor.
His team guided the Biloxi, Mississippi Sun Herald to a Pulitzer for its
coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2006.
Monroe was born in Munich, Germany, to U.S. Army officer MG James W. Monroe, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, and Charlyne Monroe, a schoolteacher from, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
