Brian Shellito laid off
Last BJ professional artist
Brian Shellito |
Brian Shellito, who in 2000 shared BJ art staff duties with people
like John Backderf, Art Krummel and Dennis Balogh, was second and third in the
2019 Cleveland Press Club awards for his political cartoons.
His reward: He was laid off by the BJ.
He bid farewell Tuesday. Ol’ Blue Walls doesn’t have a professional
artist on its staff for the first time since crayons were invented.
Brian had been doing page design, illustrations and editorial
cartoons and, free-lancing for Channel 5, courtroom artist sketches of
defendants.
Now that the BJ is owned by GateHouse Media someone in Austin, Texas
with crayons will take over the duties.
A sample of Brian’s political cartoons are at https://www.facebook.com/Shellitoons-editorial-satire-from-Brian-Shellito-327589183949420/
