Doug Adair, WKYC-Channel 3 news anchor for 13 years in the 1970s and 1980s, passed away Monday in Pleasanton, California.

The Northwestern University graduate was born in Xenia, Ohio in 1929.

He began his broadcasting career in Dayton, near Xenia. He started in Cleveland in 1958, a year before my newspaper career shifted from Charleston, West Virginia to Dayton.

Doug and Joel Daley were a two-man anchor team at WJW-Channel 8 in Cleveland. Doug switched to WKYC in 1970.

In 1983 Doug became a news anchor at Columbus WCMH-Channel 4. His co-anchor was Mona Scott, his second wife.

Doug was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1992 and won several Emmys. He retired in 1994.

Doug is survived by his third wife, Jean, a former nun; three children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will take place on June 1 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Brecksville. Calling hours will be from 10:45-11:45 a.m. with services to follow.
