Patty Duke died today of a ruptured intestine.
The actress, whose real name was Anna Pearce,
was 69.
She
first became famous as a child star, winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 16 for
her role in “The
Miracle Worker,” which she had originated on Broadway.
She
was put through hell by her parents, who forced her onto the stage at a young
age. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother clinically depressed.
