PD/former BJ entertainment critic
Mark Dawidziak’s thespian buddy, retired Stow educator Tom Stephan, got caught
in a heated dispute over a shouted letter of a word from the audience.
Stephan is the Spelling Bee’s
longtime pronouncer. At Saturday’s regional finals at the Akron-Summit County
Public Library, the contest was
interrupted for 20 minutes while judges tried to decide what to do.
Parents and coaches argued the
rules and lobbied the judges, sometimes heatedly. I guess Little League parents
have counterparts at Spelling Bees, too.
