Braves’ ‘Professor’ announcer dies
Pete Van Wieren, 69, “The Professor” among Atlanta Braves
broadcasters for 33 years, died Saturday. He got the nickname because of his
extensive research of baseball.
Van Wieren retired shortly after the death of
his long-time friend and broadcasting partner, Skip Caray.
Van Wieren and Carey were inducted together into the Atlanta Braves
Hall of Fame in 2004.
