Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach, as The Black Keys, added
to their Grammys collection Sunday night. They began the night with three previous
Grammys and increased their career total to seven.
The former Firestone High classmates – Patrick’s father
is Beacon Journal reporter Jim Carney – won Grammys for best rock performance
for “Lonely Boys” and for best rock song (“Lonely Boys”), with Brian Burton
sharing credits with them as the song’s writers, and for best rock album with “El
Camino.”
Auerbach was named producer of the year for his work on "El Camino," with Texas rock band Hacienda and with New Orleans soul/jazz performer Dr. John's "Lockdown."

The Black Keys’ first record came out in 2002. “The Big Come Up” was recorded on an 8-track in Carney’s
basement. Carney moved to Nashville in 2010, after Auerbach did. Dan and
wife Stephanie have a daughter, Sadie.
Jim Carney's wife, BJ reporter Katie Byard,
is Patrick Carney’s stepmom. Last September Patrick married Emily Ward. Previously,
Patrick was wed to Cleveland Scene and former BJ reporter Denise Grollmus.
