When Dave White was Beacon Journal Composing room foreman
and an editor would complain about something, Dave’s retort was: “Here’s a
dime. Call someone who cares.”
After retirement, Dave and wife Gina White, a retired BJ
printer, moved to Sarasota and later Venice, Florida.
Each time I winterized on Siesta Key, near the late BJ
printer Bill Gorrell’s former retirement complex, I would greet Dave with a
dime.
Dave put the dimes in a container that he kept on a shelf
along his wall.
After Paula and I had lunch with Gina last month at
Turtles Restaurant on Siesta Key, I pulled a dime out of my change purse and
handed it to Gina, saying, “In memory of Dave.”
