Cleveland Plain Dealer Guild members will vote with a gun
to their heads Tuesday: Approve a new contract that allows only 5 more layoffs
beyond the 58 who will be terminated in 2013 or have the company eliminate an
additional 80 Guild members if the agreement is rejected.
The six-year contract would reinstate two-thirds of the
12% cutback approved in 2009 in return for a guarantee of no layoffs. The PD
planned to make the 58 cuts after the no-layoffs contract expires Jan. 31.
