Gore Vidal, 86, essayist, novelist, playwright,
screenwriter, actor, died Tuesday at 86 from complications of pneumonia at his home in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles, where
he moved in 2003, after years of living in Ravello, Italy.
He wrote 25 novels, including the historical "Lincoln" and
the satirical "Myra Breckinridge," Broadway hits, Hollywood
screenplays, television dramas and mysteries still in print after 50 years.
The grandson of a U.S. Senator ran
unsuccessfully for the Senate and the House of Representatives.
