If you’re female, white and married you’re more
likely to be in better health in retirement, according to AgingSociety.org.
Divorced retirees are three times more likely to be
in poor health.
Even among male retirees, whites are twice as
likely to be in good health as blacks.
And, no surprise, there’s a direct correlation
between financial situation and health.
Retirees who do volunteer work are three times more
likely to be healthier than those who don’t. Of course, maybe that’s because
those who are not healthy are less likely to do much of anything.
Another no-brainer: Healthier retirees are more
satisfied with their lives and more optimistic about the future.
Still another duh! moment: There are huge drop-offs
in health from people in their 50s to those in their 60s and even more of a dropoff for retirees in their 70s.
Back, neck and spine are the most prominent health problems affecting the ability to continue working.
The data comes from three national surveys of the
community-dwelling population living within the United States.
