17 years with KR in Akron and Detroit in their glory days. It was a good ride with great people.

I worked with KR for 38 years. I started my career at the Akron, OH Beacon Journal on Feb. 13, 1956. This was before Knight Newspapers merged with Ridder. I served in every capacity at the Beacon Journal for 28 years, becoming Managing Editor in 1974 and Executive Editor in 1978. I joined Knight Ridder Corporate Headquarters in Miami in 1985 and became Assistant Vice President of Minority Affairs and Diversity. I retired in January, 1994 and returned to Akron where I am an Adjunct Professor of Journalism at Kent State University and publisher of three newsletters. Kinght Ridder was the greatest newspaper ever.---Al Fitzpatrick
