Jim Romenesko: Newspaper obit writer

Linton Weeks on NPR.org, writes that Jim Romenesko has become a newspaper obituary writer — except he doesn't write obituaries of people, he chronicles the demise of American newspapers.

"It's Romenesko's job to cull through the news of the media industry and post stories of interest. Because of the acceleration of dead and dying dailies in the country, Romenesko's blog has turned into a scrolling roll call of bad news. He links to story after story describing the shifting journalistic landscape.

Here’s a sample from today:

> Columbus Dispatch lays off 45 newsroom staffers
> SacBee union: The "bad deal" we agreed to saves jobs
> Seattle Times editorial: Repackaging news isn't journalism
> An alternative to spending money on "retraining" journalists
> The Malcontent and other types who write to DC journalists
> A bad time for newspapers to undo effects of their Original Sin
> Weeks: Romenesko has become a newspaper obituary writer
> Boston Herald seeks to reduce its workforce by 20 employees
> Frederick News-Post to discontinue Monday print edition
> Ten ways public radio convinces you to give them money
> WPIX gives cameras to students, tells them to submit stories
> Claim: CNBCers don't like reporting bad news about parent GE

—And we steal this stuff from Romenesko
