Bosley picks 2 for top SC honors
Two veteran journalists who chronicle community life in different ways — one in words, the other in photos — were honored Thursday by their colleagues at The State (Columbia, SC).
Allison Askins, 46, the newspaper’s food writer; and Neighbors photojournalist Tracy Glantz, 41, received the annual Hampton and Gonzales awards in ceremonies at the newspaper.
Askins and Glantz were nominated by their peers and selected by Scott Bosley, executive director of the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
Bosley said Askins is “blessed with the creativity to see things in intriguing ways, even everyday things we often take for granted. Like food.”
Bosley noted that Glantz “has the drive to find stories on her own and patience to build relationships that make her subjects especially compelling.”
Each received a $1,000 cash award and trophy, along with the distinction of having their names added to a sort of newsroom “hall of fame” that goes back to 1968.
