I know it's in flux, depending on how many people bite the bullet for those with less seniority, but does anyone have a list of those who are scheduled for layoffs? I know the Guild has a debate about how to count seniority for those who went from Guild to management and back. But I'm really curious to see how many friends will be out in the streets by October.
Sad, sad, sad time in Beacon Journal history.
I would also like to see a list.
ReplyDeleteThe Newspaper Guild has a list, but things are in such a crazy mess that who is staying and who is going could change day by day depending on volunteers. Some big name volunteers do not want their names mentioned just yet--probably for good reason--but they could save jobs now on the list.
ReplyDeleteThe blogger so far has listed:
ReplyDeleteHere are layoffs in the Beacon Journal sports department:
+ Jamie Hogan, copy editor
+ Pat McManamon, Browns beat writer
+ Stephanie Storm, Aeros/High Schools writer
+ Gary Estwick, Kent State/High Schools writer
Also, Tom Reed, sports columnist, might be let go but might be spared if others volunteer to be laid off.
Lindsay Semple
Bob DeMay
Ken Love
Karen Schiely
were the casualties in photo.
Staff photographers Jocelyn Williams and Robin Sallie are opting to take a voluntary layoff with severance. Their actions should save the jobs of Love and Schiely.
