A self-portrait entitled, "Diva," by newsroom features writer Connie Bloom, who only recently discovered her gift for fabric art, has been selected to go on tour with a Quilting Arts magazine exhibit in 2006. The quilt was posted on the magazine's web site during the week of Dec 18. Quilting Arts is the only magazine devoted to nontraditional fiber art such as Bloom's. Bloom's “Diva” quilt is a tongue-in-cheek portrait of a granny type with beaded eyes and a cheap plastic in her hair. Bloom entered the piece in the magazine's Creative Self-portraits Contest, which received 500 from around the world. Only 75 were selected for year-long tour.
